Employee’s from the Port of Geelong Authority, Dockwise, Victoria Regional Channels Authority, AQIS and Customs and Border Protection were all on hand at the Geelong Lascelles wharf to bring the MV Blue Marlin carrying the Royal Australian Navy’s first LHD alongside.   Mid Caption: The LHD01 hull has been transported from Spain to Australia by a Heavy Lift Ship, Blue Marlin. The trip has taken around eight weeks and the ship passed through the Rip into Port Philip Bay on the morning of the 17 Oct 2012. The Dockwise owned Heavy Lift Ship, MV Blue Marlin  has travelled around 10,000 nautical miles ( approx 18,520 km) to deliver the first LHD.  A work crew of over 40 staff will now work around the clock to cut away the shoring that stabilised the LHD aboard the MV Blue Marlin while in transit. Over 700 tonnes of steel was used to shore up the LHD hull.
